Accountability
IDEA explores central issues related to accountability.
Public schools share responsibility to cultivate good citizens and prepare a skilled and productive workforce. IDEA investigates how parents, communities, and young people use civic knowledge and skills to participate in school policymaking, governance, and accountability in order to ensure that schools have resources, leadership, and overall capacity to educate all children in the community. IDEA studies questions such as:
• For what, to whom, and by what means should schools be held accountable?
• What are the purposes and goals of schooling for individuals and for a democratic society?
• What is a fair system of quality assurance for schools in a world of change and complexity?
