High School Reform

IDEA researches educational opportunities in California schools.

Californians expect public schools to help all young people meet high academic standards, graduate from high school, and prepare for college. Yet this help is not available to many students at many schools. At the end of each academic year, IDEA publishes the Education Opportunity Report that provides current information on the resources, conditions, and opportunities in California schools that support students’ pathways to college, and compares California schools with schools across the nation.  IDEA publishes other reports and research papers that examine issues that may enhance or deter college access; these include reports on school discipline policies, the California high school exit exams, and the “Multiple Pathways” approach to post-secondary options.
