Chino Valley Unified under program improvement

The state has placed the Chino Valley Unified School District in Program Improvement status - a situation that isn't helpful when further budget cuts are expected. English-learner students and students with disabilities are two subgroups that did not meet two-year growth targets, district spokeswoman Julie Gobin said. This failing resulted in the designation from the state. Chino Valley Unified is now subject to state improvement and corrective measures, which could include curriculum changes. District officials on Thursday were working on notification letters that will be sent to parents, Gobin said. "It can be confusing that we own the highest (Academic Performance Index) scores in (San Bernardino County) as well as the most number of schools that have scored over 900 on the API, yet, overall, we are now a Program Improvement district," Gobin said.
