The Natomas Teachers Association has agreed to shorten the school year in an effort to save the Natomas Unified School District $2.2 million, school district officials said. According to an e-mail update by the district, the teachers' union has voted to ratify a tentative agreement to take five furlough days in 2009-10 and six furlough days in 2010-11. Under the contract, the school year for modified traditional schools will end May 27, 2010, and each track at the district's year-round schools will be shortened by a week. Administrators, student representatives and parent-teacher associations are reviewing the effect of a shortened school year on high school graduations. (more...)
