Parcel tax advocates unveil pitch for support and enlist volunteers to spread positive messages in district

Complaining about budget cuts and blaming Sacramento for school district woes is not the way to pass a parcel tax measure, Mt. Diablo school district consultants say. "It's easy to get caught up in how painful the cuts are," consultant Jared Boigon said. "Everybody gets very swept up in that because it's very emotional. But what we're seeing voters hungry to hear is — they want to know how districts are making the best of a tough situation." The district, which narrowly lost a parcel tax election in May, realizes it must change its message if it wants to persuade voters to approve a $99-per-parcel tax that could generate $7 million a year.
