Study gauges toll on military children

Children of military parents deployed to serve abroad have a greater number of emotional or behavioral difficulties than children of civilians, according to a new study. Results of the study, set to be published Monday by the American Academy of Pediatrics, come in the wake of President Barack Obama's decision last week to deploy at least 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan as part of a "surge" aimed at countering a resurgent Taliban. Mr. Obama set a target of mid-2011 to begin withdrawals, but administration officials said Sunday that the U.S. wouldn't pull all its military forces out of Afghanistan in 2011, suggesting that the U.S. would be in the region for a long time.The study comes as the U.S. military struggles with record numbers of both divorces and suicides.
