LAUSD may get help from other districts

For years, there has been talk of a breakup of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Now, with the district opening up its schools to takeover by parents and charters, neighboring school districts are looking to "assist" the district by coming in to manage nearby schools. The Montebello School District is expected to release a "friendly" proposal today to work with Garfield High School and Esteban Torres High School in providing assistance to students to improve the test scores there. Montebello has three high schools in its jurisdiction, all of which have much higher test scores. But, with its proximity to Garfield, it feels it could help ease some of the academic problems at the school. Several other districts, such as Burbank, Pasadena and Glendale, have thought about a similar action, but are waiting to see what happens over the next year to determine if they want to become involved with similar assistance programs.
