Parents demand that pesticides near schools are prohibited

Parents of students in Kern County, most of whom are Hispanic - have requrested the approval of a mesure that will limit the use of pesticides near schools. Since it's an agricultural area, many of the schools are located very near agricultural land and the pesticides reach the children, many Central Valley parents noted. "We want Kern County to respect zones within aa quarter of a mile of schools as free from any pollutants", said Armando Belenes, national vicepresident of the United Farm Workers . (more...)
