California signs on to education standards

California on Monday joined 31 states and the District of Columbia in approving new common learning standards in math and English language arts for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The goal of the new education framework is to provide consistent, and consistently rigorous, instruction nationwide. As the country's most populous state, California's adoption of the blueprint was key, especially because California has been praised for developing its own high standards.
