'Mutual Consent' teacher placement gains ground

A handful of districts and two states are doing away with the forced placement of teachers in schools in favor of a system requiring both the teacher and principal to agree to a transfer. The movement is generally supported by school leaders, who say that they must be able to have a choice in the selection of talent in their building if they are to be held accountable for achievement results. “Schools are incredibly mission-driven organizations, and each has its own unique culture,” said Tom Boasberg, the superintendent of the Denver school district.
