Federal technology grants coming to capital schools

Five Sacramento-area school districts and the Sacramento County Office of Education will share $36 million in federal technology grants with 145 other state education agencies. Elk Grove Unified will receive $1 million, San Juan Unified $500,000, Folsom Cordova Unified $170,000, and Washington Unified and Woodland Joint Unified, both in Yolo County, each $50,000. The Sacramento County Office of Education won $10,000. The Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grants are part of the federal government's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus program. "These grants will help schools use data effectively to improve student achievement and close the achievement gap," said state schools chief Jack O'Connell in a prepared statement released Monday.
