Many California school board incumbents decided not to run

In the Sacramento region, as in the rest of California, school boards have increased class sizes, cut sports and shuttered libraries to balance district budgets. But voters didn't take it out on incumbents in last week's elections and, in many cases, sitting board members didn't give voters the chance. Frank Pugh, president of the California School Boards Association, said fewer incumbents statewide ran for school trustee this election year. "There are a number of incumbents that are just exhausted with the battles between the state Legislature and the education community," he said. (more…)
