SF school district goes after residency cheats

Liars beware. Assisted by an arsenal of private investigators and public databases, San Francisco school district officials have spent the last seven months cracking down on out-of-town address cheats, identifying 200 students who lied about where they live to get into city schools. Those caught were kicked out. With that demonstration of strong sleuthing skills, district officials are putting any remaining offenders on notice and offering a narrow window of amnesty to those who come forward. Cheaters who haven't been caught yet should consider the offer carefully; the offense will otherwise come with a high personal and monetary price tag. All of the students nabbed so far not only had to leave their schools immediately, but their parents were also on the hook for the $500 to $4,500 cost of the investigation to root their kids out.
