The UC Board of Regents, meeting in San Francisco, voted 15 to 5 for the increase, together with a one-year reprieve for most families earning less than $120,000 annually. The regents also changed the name of the educational charges to students from "fees" to "tuition," a linguistic acknowledgment that the amount has tripled in the last decade. Starting next fall, undergraduates who receive no aid will face about $12,150 per year in tuition and campus fees and an average of about $16,000 more for living expenses and books. (more…)
