Education listening tour stops in South L.A.

A national youth listening tour sponsored by the Department of Education, which thus far has engaged over 1,200 students on issues of academic reform, makes a stop in Los Angeles on Thursday. The National Youth Listening Tour (NYLT), which puts a particular focus on overcoming barriers to college admission, is conducted by Department of Education officials. Among them is Alberto Retana, the department’s director of outreach, who is scheduled to host more than 120 youth activists on Oct. 7 at the Central American Resource Center, 2845 W. 7th Street The event takes place from 6-8 p.m. Some of the groups taking part include Inner City Struggle, South East Asian Coalition for Action, the Urban League and Community Coalition’s South Central Youth Empowered Thru Action (SCYEA).
