Protesters decry education, social service cuts

Educators, students and community members turned out for various demonstrations in San Diego to voice their anger over cuts to education and social services on the day the state Legislature started passing a tight budget. At a downtown park early Thursday evening, about 120 people mostly dressed in black gathered with an oversized skeleton to symbolize what they said was the death of some programs and cutbacks in others.
