California charter schools get grant from Walton Foundation

KCRW, Which Way, L.A.? (Video and audio)

The California Charter Schools Association is getting a $15 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation, to add an additional 20,000 students to attend charter schools in Los Angeles, and 100,000 statewide. The grant is the biggest of its kind from the nonprofit set up by the founders of the retail giant, Wal-Mart. The impact will be felt all over the state, but nowhere more than Los Angeles, which has more charter schools than any other school system in the country. (more...
