School district public access ratings a mixed bag

Five Ventura County school districts flunked a recent audit of how they respond to requests for public records, while three had perfect scores, according to a review by a nonprofit group that advocates for open government. California law outlines what records are public, as well as how and when an agency must respond to requests for that information. Californians Aware started the audit of state universities, community colleges and K-12 school districts by sending e-mail requests in late November for information legally available to the public.
