Jerry Brown's balanced plan is only budget choice

California's budget has been mired in red ink for the better part of a decade. If Gov. Jerry Brown has his way, California voters will soon have the opportunity to stanch the red ink, for at least a five-year period, through a balanced package of painful spending cuts and additional revenues. The outcome of the proposed June special election will probably depend on how voters perceive the roots of the state's budget woes and recent budget-balancing efforts. A few facts are in order: It's the economy! The single largest cause of the state's budget gap is the Great Recession. (more...)
