Pink slip season for schools

With the deadline to warn teachers of layoffs fast approaching, educators across the region and state are bracing for pink slips and another bout of job insecurity — something that has become a familiar ritual in California. Some teachers throughout San Diego County have already been informed that their jobs are on the line. Pink slips must be authorized by March 15 if school districts plan to issue layoff notices in May. The San Diego city school board will decide Thursday whether to send pink slips to roughly one in eight teachers, 885 members of its teaching force of 7,080. Pink slips are also proposed for about 600 nonteaching employees. (more...)
