Wis. Governor's budget includes deep cuts in school aid

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, whose plan to strip collective bargaining rights from teachers and other public workers has drawn tens of thousands of protesters for the state Capitol over the past two weeks, will unveil the rest of his proposal for dealing with the state's $3.6 billion budget shortfall Tuesday, and it includes deep cuts for schools. The governor has confirmed that he will propose cutting education aid by about $900 million, or 9 percent statewide. Schools across the state have already started putting teachers on notice that their contracts may not be renewed for next year given the budget uncertainty. (more...)
