Saving LA's Middle Schools
KPCC 89.3 - May 29, 2008
By Pat Morrison
A County Middle Schools are in desperate need of improvement. A long-time issue with overcrowding has plagued these schools, but now one-half of them are dealing with congested classrooms. School spending has also fallen far below the national average per student. Possibly the most alarming of all statistics: less than 50% of students that failed one of their middle school grade levels have gone on to graduate high school within the regular four year period. Concerned community leaders are meeting today to discuss the first-ever report on the state of LA County's Middle School Education.
