UCLA Report Finds Agreement Among National Data, State Data, and Parents: Where Children Live Can Determine School Opportunities
WHAT: Tele-press conference to discuss the findings of the annual California Educational Opportunity Report study by UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education, and Access (IDEA) and UC ACCORD.
Drawing on the most recent state data along with public perceptions gathered from a series of focus groups of diverse California parents, the latest edition of the California Educational Opportunity Report examines the relationship among educational goals, achievement, and conditions in California’s public schools. This report:
• Explores the gap between achievement in California schools and a) the aspirations of California’s students and parents, as well as b) the future demands of California’s economy;
• Investigates the conditions of California’s public schools, highlighting both a lack of quality overall and inequality between different groups of schools;
• Identifies the increased likelihood that California schools will fail to meet federal accountability standards.
