Teaching to Change the World
This project organized study groups for teachers.
IDEA explores the proposition that when teachers participate in intellectually challenging and socially meaningful work they can be catalysts for the new teachers’ skills, commitment, energy, and longevity that public schools require. IDEA has studied activities that have salutary effects on retaining highly qualified teachers in urban schools. We have convened inquiry groups that focused on educational adequacy, equity, and advocacy, and we have provided teachers with information on students’ rights, opportunity to learn, activist opportunities in California, and educational advocacy initiatives across the country.
