Teachers still spending their own money on classroom supplies

Cutting coupons, looking for back-to-school deals and shopping at the Dollar Tree are just a few ways teachers are making the most out of their money. As school districts tighten their belts on spending due to the downturn of the economy, teachers continue to spend hundreds of dollars from their own pockets to pay for classroom essentials. A study by the National School Supply and Equipment Association reported public school teachers in the United States spent more than $1.33 billion out of pocket on school supplies and instructional material in the 2009-10 school year.
