Counseling suffers

For Yvonne Russi, there have been a lot of sleepless nights. "I am petrified," she said. When her daughters, Jennice and Brittney, attended A.B. Miller High School in Fontana Unified School District, counselors made a difference and guided them along the path to college, Russi said. Her son, Anthony, will be a freshman at the school next year. And now it's looking as though there won't be any counselors. On Tuesday night, the Fontana Unified School District Board voted to eliminate 129 positions, including the entire counseling staff, the equivalent of 68 1/2 jobs. For her daughters' journey through high school, counselors were "like my right arm. I owe a lot to the counselors," Russi said. "I am scared for the future of this district. I'm scared for the children," she said. (more...)
